Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
The Lunenburg Workshops

with André Gallant

NB Workshops

André is leading a Photography Workshop in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The Workshop will be based in Historic Lunenburg at The Boscawen Inn, a beautiful inn in a quiet setting.

The week will be spent photographing quaint fishing villages, historic towns such as Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, and an outing to Peggy's Cove for afternoon light and sunset. Most days will have a short lecture, followed by an evaluation of participant's work. The emphasis of the teaching programs will be on various techniques such as Dreamscapes, various Montages, Panning, as well as an introduction to Contemplative Photography. This workshop is for participants who know their camera equipment well, and have a good sense of visual design. Also, participants must be able to process their images. Having a version of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements is useful for experimenting with montage techniques (using Layers).

Participants will fly in to Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ) airport which is 1 & 1/2 hour drive to Lunenburg. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workshop.

We maintain a waiting list for the tour once we have reached the maximum 8 participants.

Guests: Spouses or friends of participants do not pay the tuition fee, and should not expect to attend regular lectures or to receive field instruction. They may attend the first evening's briefing, and the final day presentation.

Fee for meals and accommodations for the week for spouses or friends will be $575. + HST (15%).

CLOTHING

Waterproof hiking footwear is necessary for shooting at water’s edge and for early mornings as there is often heavy dew. Bring a hat, gloves and warm jacket. Mornings can be chilly at this time of year.

EQUIPMENT

Digital photographers must bring a laptop computer. Photoshop or Photoshop Elements are excellent tools for processing, and very useful for creating montages. Lightroom is a good processing program, but you will be limited as you can’t work with Layers.

Tripod: bring a sturdy tripod with good ball-and-socket head. If you are buying a tripod, we strongly suggest that you look at models in the Manfrotto Art 190 or 55 series. The Really Right Stuff based in California also offers excellent tripods and ball heads.

Lenses: bring whichever lenses you have. A range between 24-300 is ideal.

A cable release (shutter release) is extremely useful. If you don’t have one, it is definitely worth getting one.

Tripod Rental: We will have four tripods available for rental. With all the weight restrictions with air travel, this will make it easier if you are flying.

Rental fee is $40. for the week. As quantities are limited, please reserve when you register for a workshop.
