"Nanniraut” is an Inuit word for "Illumination", and after reviewing the results of his photographic session at the Aquarium, Freeman Patterson wrote the following description of the image:
"...it evokes a dimension of mystery. It intrigues me because I cannot be sure of what I am seeing. The ripples, visually exciting in their tonal contrasts and vibrant colour variations, distort, alter, change the form of what appears possibly to be a great fish or a whale ... but I can't really be sure. Maybe I'm dreaming. Am I really seeing what I think I'm seeing? I'll never, ever know for sure. I'll always wonder what it was that I glimpsed in its passing." |
